Many people have a basic understanding of Photoshop, but do not know how to apply this knowlede. In the Applied courses, we will (with you participation) demonstrate real life solutions to everyday problems. We will also show you a more technical side to Photoshop - optimising Photoshop for your PC specifications, taking a closer look to colour theory, and printing jargon - which you will need to know about out in the real world.

There are a million ways to do a million things in Photoshop - the possibilities are legio. That said, sometimes one need a little coaching to get going. The Applied series of courses will help you see what is possible within Photoshop. We have selected a specific set of excersises to demonstrate the power of this tool.

 

In this course we will not only have a look at some practical applications of Photoshop, but also at some technical theory of the electronic, web and printing industry. We will put you on the right track towards applying Photoshop in your everyday life, and understanding what people are actually talking about in the industry - so you no longer merely need to just smile and nod, smile and nod....

 

Well, basically, at the end of the course you will know:

  • how to create proper High Dynamic Range images
  • how to create Actions - automating laborious, tedious and remedial tasks in Photoshop
  • how to open closed eyes in a photograph
  • how to set up Photoshop for your PC
  • how to distinguish between different colour models and gamuts
  • the correct resolution for different applications of your work
  • the difference between RAW and JPG files, and when to use which
  • how to do proper colour management on images, and not rely on inaccurate techniques
  • how to improve the image quality of your work
  • how to glamourise portraits
  • how to apply 4 different types of sharpening - better than Photoshop's native sharpening techniques
  • how to fix unwanted elements in your images

4. A brief look at RAW file handling

6. Basic Colour Management and Colour Casts Removal
7. Channels - Red for Smooth
8. Glamour Techniques:

1. Soft Focus
2. Magazine Cover Glamour Skin

9. Sharpening:

1. Unsharp Mask
2. High Pass Sharpening
3. Lab Sharpening
4. Smart Sharpening

10. Managing Lighting Conditions:

1. Making a white over-exposed sky blue again
2. Getting rid of 'flat’ lighting conditions
3. Removing hotspots from people’s faces
4. Correct exposure from generally over- and under-exposed images
5. Creating HDR (High Dynamic Range) manually

11. Other Techniques:

1. Creating Actions
2. Layers - The Grimm Tale
3. Editing in Perspective
4. Opening eyes and matching skin tones

 

For this course, you need to know all the basic tools of Photoshop.
